Oldie But Goodie

While I'm getting ready to launch another new t-shirt, I'd like to pay a little tribute to our classic tee: the "Black Evil Kitty T-shirt." The design is very simple, yet loved by many. Even Chicago Magazine noticed its subtle charm and featured it on its pages in July 2008. International performing musician; Peaches, wore it to one of her photoshoots.

Sad, sad summer of 1997

Evil Kitty keeps me very busy and I rarely have time to watch movies. Yesterday I finally got a chance to see "The Queen." It brought a lot of memories. The summer of 1997 is the time when Princess Diana died in a car crash (as depicted in the movie.) Earlier this summer Gianni Versace got shot in Miami.

I remember these 2 incidents vividly. I was traveling in Europe on my Eurorail pass. When Gianni died, we were all glued to the TV set in my mom's house in Poland. We and the whole world were mourning for this great designer. Later we left for Paris. Yes, I was actually in Paris trying to get into the most posh gay club on The Champs Elysées (no luck there), when Princess Diana died.

As sad as it sounds, my love for the Versace brand ran out with Gianni's departure. No I don't think it's fair. I've never given Donatella a chance. I just don't think she is as talented as Gianni. Back then I was drawn to the vivid colors, provocative designs and advertising campaigns that pushed the envelope.

The Ting Tings - the acoustic set at The Abbey

Chicago is cold and miserable today, but it doesn't bother me. I had a really good day. I met Katie and Jules from The Ting Tings. They played an acoustic set at The Abbey Pub in Chicago, before their regular show at Metro.

The show was sponsored and recorded by WXRT radio. It was part of their "Live from Studio X" series. Marty Lennartz; one of XRT's DJs, interviewed The Ting Tings on stage. He asked them questions before, during and after the set. Surprisingly this arrangement didn't seem disruptive. The whole show had a nice flow and it was fun to watch. Katie has an amazing voice. I didn't always appreciate it while listening to their record. It really came through during the acoustic set.

Things I didn't realize before I met them today...
1) Katie is much smaller in person
2) She has an amazing vocal range
3) She designs and styles her own stage outfits
4) Jules is a little bit envious of Katie being showered with designer outfits. He wouldn't mind a cool piece of garment once in a while.

I gave Katie some Evil Kitty outfits. My next project is to design a couple of stage outfits for her and for Jules. I felt a little bit guilty I didn't bring anything for him today.

Project Runway where art thou?

Just found out that Project Runway will be finally aired on Lifetime. NBC Universal, parent of Bravo, and The Weinstein Co have settled their dispute.
Can't wait to see what's going to happen to "Project Runway." Will the loyal fans follow it to Lifetime? As you know, Bravo is filming it's own new reality show called "Fashion Show." Perhaps viewers will be more excited for the new show. Will they both air at the same time? Will one overshadow the other?
Can't wait to find out.
