Saint Louis Fashion Week 2009
Our trip to Saint Louis was filled with a lot of excitement and curiosity. We were caring a little bit of weight on our shoulders. After all, we were there because of you. You voted religiously to put us in one of the top spots and we wanted to make you proud. After a short flight from Chicago, we arrived at the Lumière Hotel and Casino. While I tried to check in, Sean was mesmerized by a huge five-story-tall waterfall in the atrium. My husband is quite "aquatic;" any sight of water puts him in a trance.
The lobby was buzzing. You could feel the excitement of people getting ready for the VIP party and for the very first show: "Project: Design!" All of a sudden I noticed Attilio D'Agostino, the founder of the St. Louis Fashion Week. I ran quickly to introduce myself. He gave me a big hug and welcomed me to the event. How great was that!? I instantly felt welcomed. Attilio is also a co-founder of Alive Magazine "St. Louis' Hottest Magazine, featuring the latest in fashion, shopping, food and entertainment!" I spent most of my time that evening putting final touches on the clothes. I wanted everything to be ready for the show.
Next day I got a phone call from Marylyn who informed me she would be my assistant for the entire day. She was great. She put up with all my requests. She made sure I didn't miss any important meetings, rehearsals or interviews. We went backstage were I saw 3 rows of Bakers shoes waiting for me. They looked great on their website, but they looked even better in person. Two of my models were already waiting for me and we started fittings promptly with help of Yoko and Jessica, my dressers
Everything was going smoothly. However every time I tried to leave and have a quick snack with Sean my phone rang. Marylyn was looking for me. I finally sneaked out for a veggie burger and of course I missed a quick meeting. That's ok. I was there to meet with the judges and to meet Jillian Lewis, a Project Runway finalist and a judge. Jillian was also debuting her Spring collection at the show.
The designers I really wanted to talk to was AJ Thouvenot and Ryan Coyne of Trashbiscuit. Theirs designs were so much fun. Think turquoise blue and yellow vinyl faux flight attendant suit and bright pink feather dresses. I hoping to bring them to Chicago for a fashion show.
All the preparation and anticipation finally ended at 7pm. All my models were lined up and ready to go. We had to wait a little bit longer for Clinton Kelly and Stacy London from "What Not to Wear" to do their "thing." It's hard to say if people knew they would open the show. It was a big secret. However, the crowd was filled with their fans. Two women sitting next to Sean couldn't contain their excitement.
We were next. Evil Kitty opened the show. The girls looked beautiful. The only stress was brought by quick changes. We had 8 models and 12 looks. Quick model parade ended the show and I was free to watch the other collections.
My collection was consisted of 12 looks. They were mostly dresses, but of different lengths, shapes and textures. I picked a similar color scheme to bring the collection together. All the outfits were light blue, black and turquoise blue.

Evil Kitty's Wedding
...not really. It was Ranise's wedding, but we made her dress.
We met Ranise at one of our shopping events and became good friends.
She was hunting for a perfect wedding dress (by perfect I mean; unique and punk rock). There was nothing out there that she really liked, so she commissioned us to make her one.
Thank you Ranise!
We really enjoyed making it.

Evil Kitten Spotlight
We'd like to introduce the youngest Evil Kitten: Zoë.
Her mom is also an Evil Kitten who supported us from the very beginning.
We were awaiting Zoë's arrival with a lot of excitement, so we decided to make her a new Evil Kitty wardrobe.
I must admit - she is a great model!
If you have any tiny kittens in your family, email us and we'll make them a new EK wardrobe.

Thank you for voting!
Thank you sooooo much for voting for me and Evil Kitty to participate in the St. Louis Fashion Week. There were some of you who put your minds and hearts into it. You know who you are. I'm sorry we didn't make it to the top 6. We ended up taking the 11th spot. This is not bad considering that we started quite late. I was amazed watching the amounts of votes increase day by day.
Next time this opportunity comes along I will be one of the 1st people to sign up, I promise. This will give us a better chance of winning. Can't thank you enough for voting and for spreading the word. If any opportunities arise because of it, you'll be the 1st to know.

It worked!!!
I never know if an email I sent to a publication reaches the editor. I predict most of my emails end up in the spam folder. As a hopeless dreamer I keep sending them, thinking one of these days my emails reach the right person.
Last week my prayers were answered. Miss Elle from the brokeandbeautiful.com read my email and wrote a lengthy article on www.awakenedaesthetic.com. She looked through all of my designs, picked her favorites and even analyzed our shipping policy. She really did her research before writing this piece. I'm very impressed. Thank you Miss Elle.

My Snow Princess Collection
It was great show. It really was. "The Chicago Is...Red Hot" 2008 didn't disappoint. The disappointing part was the lack of coverage afterwards. I haven't seen much of pictures and write-up even in the local press. Therefore I was excited to find this, a post on RUNWAY TO RETAIL blog: runwaytoretail.blogspot.com/2008/10/red-hot.html
Check out the second photo from the top. That's my "Snow Princess Collection." It's fun and girly and it has all the Evil Kitty traits, but it won't be available for sale on our website. Most of the pieces were created especially for the runway. No worries, you can still order them individually. We accept custom orders. Just email me at lidia@evilkitty.net.

Lollapalooza Day 2 - Dante's Inferno, but hotter
Arctic Monkeys!
I was able to see 6 bands on this hot and humid day. Someone on Twitter said: "it's like Dante's Inferno, but hotter." I'm surprised no one jumped into the Buckingham Fountain to cool off. I think Arctic Monkeys stole the show. Can't wait to see them again at Reading.

Depeche Mode vs Kings of Leon - Lollapalooza day 1
Mud, music and alcohol resulted in a pretty good festival day. I had my secret weapon: pink galoshes I could go where other people didn't dare to go. Big puddles = easy shortcuts.
We got there just in time to see the Thievery Corporation. I really liked them, so did the crowd. The mud dancing had officially started. Yet after 3 songs I felt my husband pulling me toward another stage. He was in a hurry to see Peter Bjorn And John. I liked them, but wished I could finish watching TC.
Let's forward to the headliners. So who was better; Depeche Mode or Kings of Leon? I have to say: Kings of Leon. I love you Dave Gahan, but you can't play new songs and expect the crowd to "get into it." We were hoping for more of the "oldies, but goodies." On the other hand, KOL's last record was amazing, everyone new it and everyone sang along.
My festival's highlight: seeing Perry Farell backstage.

Promoting Evil Kitty at Pitchfork 2009
I found a perfect opportunity to promote Evil Kitty - Pitchfork Festival 2009. Friday was really busy and I was worried that we would miss Jesus Lizard (the band my husband was really excited to see). Thankfully we finished work early, found a decent parking spot, grabbed a beer, picked up a large bag of pins from Busy Beaver's booth and got to the stage just as the band started to play.
Even though I didn't know much about Jesus Lizard, I loved the show. You can always "appreciate" a guys who stagedives, only to get back on stage and to insult his audience; calling them "weak".
Today was more mellow. I spent half of the day walking around and giving out Evil Kitty pins.
Can't wait for Flaming Lips!

Hanging out with Terry Lundgren and Tommy Hilfiger
Me and Tommy Hilfiger
The Chicago Fashion Focus (fashion week) was officially announced today during a press conference at Macy’s on State Street. The 2 main guests were: Terry Lundgren, the CEO of Macy’s and Tommy Hilfiger. The Chicago fashion industry is quite small and everyone knows everyone. It was good to catch up with other designers and the industry professionals.
I was invited as an alumna of the Chicago Fashion Incubator. I completed the program last year along with 5 other designers; here is more information about the program. It was good to see the Incubator space again, it looked great by the way, and to see my fellow awardees.
The most exciting moment came at the end, when we had a round table discussion with Terry Lundgren and Tommy Hilfiger. We asked them questions and they offered some interesting answers. The most depressing moment: Tommy talking about getting investors and having money to back your line. I wish…

Another great cause
The Evil Kity Team is passionate about many different issues. If you've been a loyal fan, you know how much we care about fair treatment of workers all around the globe. That's why we pleaded to never use sweatshops to produce our clothes.
Till today I didn’t get a chance to voice my support to any specific organization. However, after receiving email from Sara Wilson from The Fresh Air Fund, I decided to give it a plug.
The Fresh Air Fund, an independent, not-for-profit agency, has provided free summer vacations to more than 1.7 million New York City children from low-income communities since 1877. Nearly 10,000 New York City children enjoy free Fresh Air Fund programs annually. In 2008, close to 5,000 children visited volunteer host families in suburbs and small town communities across 13 states from Virginia to Maine and Canada. 3,000 children also attended five Fresh Air camps on a 2,300-acre site in Fishkill, New York. The Fund’s year-round camping program serves an additional 2,000 young people each year.
For the next couple of days, any gift you make to The Fresh Air Fund will be matched dollar for dollar by a generous group of donors. Go here to donate.

I have a crush on PJ Harvey
That's true. She is the best female artist out there in my opinion. Polly Jean is powerful, sexy, mysterious, very talented and unpredictable.
I saw her last night and she did not disappoint. I had mixed feelings before the concert. I just finished listening to her last record and wasn't that impressed. I'm still waiting for her to top "Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea," which was an excellent record. Even though the songs she picked weren't my favorites, she still managed to keep my attention through the entire show.
One of her amazing performances:

Ok maybe I didn't tell you I was leaving. As a matter of fact, I spent last 3 weeks in Warsaw. No worries, Evil Kitty was in good hands. I was also watching over it from oversees. The company is fine, but my blog and the fan club were neglected. Forgive me Evil Kittens. I'll take care of you soon.

Oldie But Goodie
While I'm getting ready to launch another new t-shirt, I'd like to pay a little tribute to our classic tee: the "Black Evil Kitty T-shirt." The design is very simple, yet loved by many. Even Chicago Magazine noticed its subtle charm and featured it on its pages in July 2008. International performing musician; Peaches, wore it to one of her photoshoots.
