My March music crush

The Best Live Performance of the Year...

MUSE at the United Center, Chicago, March 12th
That's true; I didn't want to go to this show. I'm so glad Sean convinced me to go. The live set and the performance was amazing. I absolutely loved the 6 huge light boxes. I'd love to use them at an Evil Kitty Fashion Show one day.

Lollapalooza Day 2 - Dante's Inferno, but hotter

Arctic Monkeys!

I was able to see 6 bands on this hot and humid day. Someone on Twitter said: "it's like Dante's Inferno, but hotter." I'm surprised no one jumped into the Buckingham Fountain to cool off. I think Arctic Monkeys stole the show. Can't wait to see them again at Reading.

Depeche Mode vs Kings of Leon - Lollapalooza day 1

Mud, music and alcohol resulted in a pretty good festival day. I had my secret weapon: pink galoshes I could go where other people didn't dare to go. Big puddles = easy shortcuts.

We got there just in time to see the Thievery Corporation. I really liked them, so did the crowd. The mud dancing had officially started. Yet after 3 songs I felt my husband pulling me toward another stage. He was in a hurry to see Peter Bjorn And John. I liked them, but wished I could finish watching TC.

Let's forward to the headliners. So who was better; Depeche Mode or Kings of Leon? I have to say: Kings of Leon. I love you Dave Gahan, but you can't play new songs and expect the crowd to "get into it." We were hoping for more of the "oldies, but goodies." On the other hand, KOL's last record was amazing, everyone new it and everyone sang along.

My festival's highlight: seeing Perry Farell backstage.

Pitchfork Festival - Day Three

I'm out of Evil Kitty pins. They all ended up in the hands of the festival goers. Now I can relax, listen to music and wait for the Flaming Lips.

Promoting Evil Kitty at Pitchfork 2009

I found a perfect opportunity to promote Evil Kitty - Pitchfork Festival 2009. Friday was really busy and I was worried that we would miss Jesus Lizard (the band my husband was really excited to see). Thankfully we finished work early, found a decent parking spot, grabbed a beer, picked up a large bag of pins from Busy Beaver's booth and got to the stage just as the band started to play.
Even though I didn't know much about Jesus Lizard, I loved the show. You can always "appreciate" a guys who stagedives, only to get back on stage and to insult his audience; calling them "weak".

Today was more mellow. I spent half of the day walking around and giving out Evil Kitty pins.

Can't wait for Flaming Lips!

I have a crush on PJ Harvey

That's true. She is the best female artist out there in my opinion. Polly Jean is powerful, sexy, mysterious, very talented and unpredictable.
I saw her last night and she did not disappoint. I had mixed feelings before the concert. I just finished listening to her last record and wasn't that impressed. I'm still waiting for her to top "Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea," which was an excellent record. Even though the songs she picked weren't my favorites, she still managed to keep my attention through the entire show.

One of her amazing performances:

The Ting Tings - the acoustic set at The Abbey

Chicago is cold and miserable today, but it doesn't bother me. I had a really good day. I met Katie and Jules from The Ting Tings. They played an acoustic set at The Abbey Pub in Chicago, before their regular show at Metro.

The show was sponsored and recorded by WXRT radio. It was part of their "Live from Studio X" series. Marty Lennartz; one of XRT's DJs, interviewed The Ting Tings on stage. He asked them questions before, during and after the set. Surprisingly this arrangement didn't seem disruptive. The whole show had a nice flow and it was fun to watch. Katie has an amazing voice. I didn't always appreciate it while listening to their record. It really came through during the acoustic set.

Things I didn't realize before I met them today...
1) Katie is much smaller in person
2) She has an amazing vocal range
3) She designs and styles her own stage outfits
4) Jules is a little bit envious of Katie being showered with designer outfits. He wouldn't mind a cool piece of garment once in a while.

I gave Katie some Evil Kitty outfits. My next project is to design a couple of stage outfits for her and for Jules. I felt a little bit guilty I didn't bring anything for him today.
